Baahubali 2 is creating a huge storm at the box-office. Bollywood is feeling the impact as records are tumbling one after another. A new pan-Indian superstar has emerged and that is Prabhas. However, the man who gave the hunk his voice for Baahubali 2 is Sharad Kelkar. The handsome TV actor who has done a film in Telugu was recommended for the job. Sharad says, “It would be an understatement to say that I am over the moon. The feeling is beyond that. I am on the phone since two days and I am terribly proud of being a part of the biggest film India has ever made.” Critics have gone gaga over Prabhas’ exceptional performance in the film. Everyone has marveled at how he did not go out of character even for a second and brought out the difference between Shivudu and Amarendra Baahubali with finesse. With such a superlative performer on screen, did it make it easier for Sharad to dub for the film?

The actor says, “See, it is (dubbling) a completely different ball game. I am an actor and I understand emotions well. People say my physicality and voice is similar to Prabhas’ but you need to get the tone right.” He is all praises for SS Rajamouli. “You cannot go wrong when you have Rajamouli Sir beside you. He is a fantastic director. He was present throughout the dubbing and would guide me constantly. He took me into his world in this journey.” Sharad says he was fully confident about the success of the second part of Prabhas – Rana Daggubati’s epic. “I was 100 per cent sure. I knew it was a bigger canvas than what we saw in the first film, which was an outstanding product. Rana and Prabhas had worked harder along with the entire team. I am grateful to the audience for showering us with so much love. My phone hasn’t stopped ringing since two days. I am overwhelmed.” (Also Read: Prabhas’ Baahubali 2: The Conclusion surpasses the lifetime box office collection of Baahubali: The Beginning in the Hindi version in just 4 days)

Sharad is happy that both SS Rajamouli and Karan Johar have appreciated his work. “Sir was very happy after the dubbing got over. I also heard that Karan liked my work. We spoke on the phone and Karan said he was thrilled with the final product. It is a crazy time for all of us,” he says. We could not help but ask how Baahubali 2 landed up on his plate? “I did a film in Telugu called Sardar Gabbar Singh starring Pawan Kalyan. At that time, someone suggested my name to SS Rajamouli. Now, I am a huge fan of his films whether it is Magadheera or Makkhi. I told them that I would come for the voice test only if I get to meet him in person. He said that he would be present for the session. Everything fell into place and I bagged the film,” he discloses.
The actor says his daughter Kesha has not seen the film so far as it is a little too violent for her. But he will definitely show it to her as she grows older. However, he is happy that his No.1 critic, his wife Keerti (Gaikwad) has given his work five stars. “After seeing the scene where Amarendra Baahubali is dying and telling Katappa to stay alive for his wife Devasena and newborn, Keerti started howling. It was my biggest compliment,” says Sharad. The actor will be seen next in Sanjay Dutt’s Bhoomi where he plays the main villain and two Marathi films, Rakshas and Ek Number. The latter is touted to be Marathi cinema’s biggest action flick and shoot will start in 15 days. “I have to start training for it. I have gorged so many sweets recently that I put on weight. It is time to shed the flab and bring out my lean and mean frame,” Sharad signs off.
