The last time Rajkummar Rao and Kangana Ranaut appeared together on the silver screen was in 2014 in Vikas Bahl’s directorial Queen. The movie went on to become a sleeper hit and the underdog was nothing less than magic. Five years later, the two talented actors are going to be seen again on the big screen in Prakash Kovelamudi’s directorial Judgementall Hai Kya. From what we can see from the trailer, both Rao and Ranaut play edgy characters, who are not just quirky but also suspects for a murder. Rao, who recently sat down for an exclusive conversation with BollywoodLife revealed that while shooting the movie, despite his character being multi-layered, even a pinch of skepticism didn’t hit him. “I get pretty nervous before starting a movie,” he confessed, adding, “(However) Once I get the knack of the character, I thoroughly enjoy it.”
Ask him about his highly anticipated reunion with Ranaut, the actor shares his excitement. “I’ve been hearing this a lot that people are really excited about our pairing,” he says, further mentioning, “People told me that we complement each other on screen”. Rao admits that both he and Ranaut have evolved as actors. Talking about the atmosphere on the set, Rao said, “We would have a lot of discussions about our characters and the scenes.”
Ranaut has been making headlines as her movie’s promotions are going on. One of the recent promotional events became the talking point of the entire nation when the National Award-winning actress reprimanded a journalist amidst an audience.
Point out Ranaut’s bluntness to Rao, and he reveals that he is instead in awe of her. “That’s her point of view. We live in a free country and we believe everybody can have their point of view,” he says, and goes on to add, “All I can say is more power to her”. “There are a lot of people who like her for her honesty,” Rao claims.
While many may have a problem with Kangana calling a spade-a-spade attitude, Rao appreciates it. “She is definitely a fearless girl. She inspires a lot of girls through her work.” He also admits, “And sometimes even I feel like, ‘how can she be so fearless and open about everything.’”
