From demonetizing high value notes to nabbing tax evaders, Indian government has tried its whole bag of tricks to encourage people to pay their taxes honestly, but still there are millions of people who do not abide by rules and avoid paying their true tax liabilities. But then there are our Bollywood celebrities also who do not shirk paying their taxes on time and hence set a precedent which all high income people do need to follow. Let’s find out which celeb disbursed the maximum amount of money as advance tax for the fiscal year 2017.

Kareena Kapoor, who recently became a proud mother to a baby boy, is one of the busiest Bollywood actresses. Her films and endorsement assignments just don’t keep her busy round the clock but also yield profits in crores. Known world over for essaying a wide spectrum of characters in her career, the beautiful actress paid around Rs. 2.20 crores as advance tax in 2016 and came at the tenth position in the list of top ten highest tax payers in Bollywood.

Kareena has been entertaining the audience since she debuted with JP Dutta’s war film ‘Refugee’ in 2000 and then starred in a number of successful movies, some of the most prominent ones being ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…’, ‘Chameli’, ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Omkara’, ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and many more. Over the period of time, her market value as an entertainer has increased manifold. Many renowned companies from all over the world die to sign her up as the face of their consumer brands.
In 2016, apart from featuring in several big brands, Kareena appeared in two films, ‘Ki & Ka’ and ‘Udta Punjab’. Both the films were starkly different from each other in almost every sphere. One dealt with the theme of quashing gender stereotypes whereas the second one talked about the substance issue in the state of Punjab. Both the movies were received well by the critics as well the audience and went on to do excellent business.

Currently, Kareena is enjoying the bliss of motherhood. She will next be seen in ‘Veere Di Wedding’. But no matter whether or not she is doing a film, the actress remains much in demand and news throughout the year.

TRIVIA: In the year 2007 Kareena Kapoor became the only actress to be featured among “The Highest Tax Payers of 2006–07
Katrina Kaif’s stars are not shining that bright these days as majority of her films are failing one after another at the ticket window, but that did not stop the actress from filing her income tax returns for the year 2016. Despite the failure of her films, the ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ actress went ahead and paid around Rs. 2.60 crores as advance tax in the year gone by and became ninth highest tax payers in Bollywood.

A British Indian model-turned-actress, Katrina remains a favorite among movie makers and advertisers alike. Her popularity never ceases to surprise her critics who on no occasion miss a chance to throw shade on her. But not at all perturbed by the criticism coming her way, the gorgeous actress keeps working hard every day and makes a lot of money. Remember, Hindi film industry is not the only stream where she makes her money from. Apart from films, her demand in advertising world is always high. The actress, who has also been part of Telugu and Malayalam films, has been brand ambassador of many premium brands in the past and currently has a number of other popular brands in her kitty.
Named as Asia’s sexiest woman multiple times and the recipient of “Smita Patil Memorial Award”, Katrina Kaif did two films last year, ‘Fitoor’ with Aditya Roy Kapur and ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ with Sidharth Malhotra. Unfortunately, both the big budget films tanked at the box office without a trace. Now the actress is looking forward to her next release, ‘Jagga Jasoos’, which stars her former boyfriend, Ranbir Kapoor, as the male lead and is directed by Anurag Basu.

TRIVIA: Katrina Kaif charged Rs. 70 Lakh for ‘Malleeswari’, topping the list of the highest paid actress for a South Indian movie debut.

Saif Ali Khan, the newest daddy in tinsel town, had no release in 2016, but that does not mean the actor did not make any money last year. Like most of leading Bollywood actors and actresses, Chote Nawab too earned a lot of moolah through brand endorsements and various other sources and forked out Rs. 3.00 crores as advance tax. Currently, he is at the tenth position in the list of top ten highest tax payers in Bollywood, quite close to his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is the tenth highest tax payers. The son of legendary Bollywood actress, Sharmila Tagore, and Indian cricketer, Mansoor Ali Khan, Saif will next be seen in ‘Rangoon’, one of the most awaited films of the year. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under his banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainments, the movie also stars Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut in important roles. Since Saif’s last film ‘Phantom’ failed miserably at the box office, the actor has a lot of expectations riding on the film. We hope it works at the ticket window and rakes in huge collections for everyone involved.

Besides ‘Rangoon’, another interesting project that Saif currently has in his hand is a film called ‘Chef, directed by Raja Krishna Menon. A remake of Jon Favreau’s Hollywood film of the same name, the film tells the story of a famous chef who quits his job at an upmarket restaurant after a public argument with a food critic and goes on to start a food truck that becomes famous everywhere. According to latest media reports, Saif has also given his nod to star in Nikhil Advani’s next film ‘Bazaar’. The film is expected to be rolling soon.

Former beauty queen, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, had a fantastic year 2016. She arrived with two big ticket films last year – ‘Sarbjit’ and ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ – and, as good luck would have it, both the movies performed extremely well at the box office and brought the actress in the reckoning once again after she went on a hiatus for her pregnancy. In 2016, Aishwarya disbursed Rs. 3.00 crores as advance tax, which is phenomenal considering the fact that she was away from work for more than five years. Whether Aish does a film or not, but she never fails to hog the whole limelight. You can say that she was away from sets for some time due to her pregnancy and then taking care of her little daughter, but the actress remained in news for one reason or the other.
In 2015, she made a comeback to films after a gap of five years with the movie ‘Jazbaa’, directed by Sanjay Gupta. Some would have thought that her fan following must have been on a decline in these many years, but the release of ‘Jazbaa’ and the kind of response the film generated at the box office proved them all wrong in a row. The film turned out to be a successful venture and several movie makers queued up in from of Aish’s doors once again.
Soon after the huge success of ‘Jazbaa’, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan signed National Award winner filmmaker Omung Kumar’s ‘Sarbjit’, a biopic based on the life of an Indian farmer who was wrongly convicted for crossing the border. The heart wrenching story of a sister’s struggle to take his brother home from a Pakistani prison tug the right chord of the audience and the film became a hit. Everyone praised Aish’s act in the film. ‘Sarbjit’ was followed by ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, wherein Aishwarya played a seductress and poet. She was appreciated for her performances in the Karan Johar directorial. Nothing has been disclosed about her next project.

One of the finest actors from the current crop of Bollywood actors, Ranbir Kapoor might be reticent and reserved in his personal life, but when it comes to competing with anyone, he is always set to give his best to win. In competition, be it of any kind, the actor does not shy away from competing even with his seniors. Beating several A-list stars by a huge margin, the Ranbir Kapoor paid Rs. 7.8 crores as advance tax in the year 2016 and secured tenth place in the list of top ten highest tax payers from Bollywood.
In 2016, Ranbir appeared in only one film, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. It was the first time when the actor collaborated with the maverick filmmaker, Karan Johar. Also starring Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in pivotal roles, the film fulfilled all expectations and performed outstandingly well at the ticket window. Clocking more than 112.00 crores during its theatrical run, the movie emerged as one of the biggest hits of the actor’s career. Besides ‘ADHM’, the actor was also seen in a couple of advertisements, from where he made a lot of money.
Talking about the upcoming projects of the talented actor, Ranbir will next be seen in Anurag Basu’s adventure film ,’Jagga Jasoos’, which stars his former love, Katrina Kaif, as the female lead. The movie is all set to hit screens on April 7, 2017. Besides ‘Jagga Jasoos’, the actor has also started filming for the Sanjay Dutt biopic, which is being directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Great actor Amitabh Bachchan is great in every sphere. The actor, who has been ruling hearts and box office since the time immemorial, time and again shows what makes his so great. Apart from making money from films, Senior Bachchan also appears in an array of advertisements and hosts the popular TV game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’. Each and every year he disburses his tax on time and is one of the honest tax payers in the Hindi film industry.

Big B is perhaps the only actor who could make his second innings and impressive as the first one. It is no secret what the actor had to go through when his company Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited went bankrupt before 2000. But he never gave up and once again resurrected himself and his career and how. Big B has been on a roll since 2000 and has starred in a number of super hit films like ‘Mohabbatein’ (2000), ‘Baghban’ (2003), ‘Khakee’ (2004), ‘Paa’ (2009) and ‘Piku’ (2015), to name a few.
In 2016, four times National Award winner Amitabh Bachchan was featured in three Hindi films – ‘Wazir’, ‘TE3N’ and ‘Pink’. All three movies were received well by the audience and did good business at the box office, especially ‘Pink’, which kind of started a movement surrounding women and various issues they face in their day to day life in a male dominated society. Besides these films, he also did a couple of TV commercials for popular brands.

TRIVIA: Not many people know that Big B is ambidextrous, which means he can write equally well with both his hands.
Shah Rukh Khan is not the King of romance only. He is the King of Commerce also. Popular as the biggest superstar the world has ever known, SRK is one of the richest entertainers on the globe and has been featured in Forbes’ list of wealthiest actors in the world. Need I say more? On home turf, Shah Rukh is among the highest tax payers in. Last year he forked out Rs. 14 crores as advance tax and positioned himself at fourth spot in the list of top ten highest tax payers in Bollywood. The ‘Raees’ actor makes huge income from his movies which never fail to smash records. He is equally popular in the ad world also.
SRK did only one film in the year 2016. Though the film was titled ‘Fan’, it did not receive much fan love from movie enthusiasts. However, ‘Fan’ was not a major disappointment as many have reported in media. In addition to earning approximately Rs. 84 crores from the domestic box office, the film raked in Rs. 61 crores from the overseas markets. Before its theatrical release on 15th April, the film had already made decent money though satellite rights and music rights. The Greek God of Bollywood, Hrithik is known for his dedication towards his work. One look at his filmography and you can easily find out what kind of diversity he brings to the table. One can hardly find any repetition in his work as an actor. But it seems that the actor is currently going through a lean phase in his career. Last year, Hrithik appeared in only one film ‘Mohenjo Daro’. Being an Ashutosh Gowarikar directorial featuring Hrithik Roshan, it was expected the film would inflame the box-office, but unfortunately it did not fare well at the ticket window. Though the film tanked, it could not damage his stardom in any way. He still is one of the biggest superstars in the country, with a fan following which cuts across geographical boundaries.

TRIVIA: At age 21, Hrithik was diagnosed with scoliosis and told he could never be an actor, dance and do all the things a Bollywood hero needs to do.tax

Khiladi Kumar paid Rs. 11.00 crores in 2016 as advance tax and secured the second position in the list.

In the year 2016, the actor featured in three successful films, namely ‘Airlift’, ‘Housefull 3’ and ‘Rustom’. If we talk about his performance in 2016, the 50-year old actor came up with only one film, ‘Sultan’ last year, which toppled a number of box-office records and did fanatabulous business at the ticket window. The mind boggling success of the film proved that whether people love him or loath him, Salman is currently the numero uno king of Bollywood and, in likelihood, will remain so in many more years to come.
Apart from earning an impressive collection of Rs. 300.45 crores at the domestic box-office, the film, which released on 6th July on the auspicious day of Eid, minted approximately Rs. 285 crores from the international arena and emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of not only Salman’s career but the whole Indian cinema also. He is the only Bollywood megastar who boats of not few but 10 films in the coveted Rs. 100 club. Here, one thing which is important to note is that besides films, Salman also earns a hefty amount through various endorsement deals also.
